Trip Overview

This blog will follow two totally inexperienced bikepackers, Geoff and Cam, and their journey from Banff to Mexico via the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route. The route follows the Continental Divide, exposing riders to high altitude, diverse wildlife, and solitude. To learn more about the route, check this out. Randy will be the official bookie so get in touch with him if you'd like to place a wager on how far we will actually make it.

In the mean time, you can track our progress here thanks to our SPOT device.

This will be a site where we will try our best to post some pictures and stories along the way. Happy reading!

Day 33 - Lynx Pass to Kremmling

In light of yesterday's very short trip (~20 miles), we decided to do a little detour today to ensure we get to Kremmling since we were in dire need of groceries.  Instead of continuing on the backcountry roads, we turned onto some asphalt for our climb and ensuing descent.  This turned out to be an awesome decision - what a downhill. The three of us cruised down a 10 mile downhill into a valley overshadowed by towering mountains. The nice thing about riding in these remote areas is that even the highways are void of traffic.  We felt like Ricky Bobby as we would slingshot pass one another down the entire downhill climaxing at 70 km/h.

We arrived to Kremmling where we found a killer deal.  The Easton Hotel offers hostel style rooms for the price of 18 dollars a bed... We got a private room for three where we had access to a common room with FREE POPCORN, ice bags for those sore knees, a hot tub, and a storage room. What a treat.
